Well, Mr. Koukol really had his work cut out for him with my case. I don’t want to tell you exactly what I did but it was really stupid. When the police arrested me things looked pretty bad.

When Mr. Koukol first went to court with me the prosecutor was offering me a plea to a strike and a four year prison term. He told the judge and the prosecutor that he was going to have his investigator interview all the witnesses and that he was optimistic about being able to present evidence that I had just made an innocent (intoxicated) mistake and that I was really not committing the crime I was accused of.

Over the course of several weeks, Mr. Koukol’s investigator interviewed every potential witnesses you could imagine. Mr. Koukol printed out maps and diagrams which combined with the witness interviews (and police logs) made it fairly clear that I had just made a mistake.

It worked. The prosecutor agreed that things looked worse than they really were. The prosecutor not only dismissed the strike offense, he dismissed the felony as well. I was able to plea to a trespass with no jail time!

From a felony strike and four years in prison to a misdemeanor trespass with no jail time, I can’t imagine a better outcome than that. When I read Mr. Koukol’s client’s stories on the Internet I remember hoping that I would be able to tell my own success story.

The circumstances of my life that led me to Mr. Koukol’s Law Firm were somewhat different from other testimonials that are described on this website. In my case, I was enmeshed in a highly complex situation involving harassment by my boss (a well established professor and medical doctor at UC Davis) and his involvement of the University’s police and Human Resources Department in an attempt at retaliation. Over the course of three months, Dan met with the prosecutor a number of times. Each time he was able to improve the situation by being a really good negotiator. The end result is that he did get the charge reduced to a misdemeanor. In addition, he made it so that I avoided having to go to jail.

The best of all is that Dan go the judge to agree to take me off probation and dismiss my case if I attend a theft class and comply with probation for 1 year. My family hired Dan Koukol to represent me. He was able to immediately convince the court to release me from custody, which I obviously appreciated very much. 

After this I met with Dan Koukol at his office and he and I carefully went over the facts of my cases and agreed on an approach to my case. Over the next several weeks, Dan and I appeared together in court a number of times. In the early stages of the case the prosecutor wanted to have me sentenced to state prison.

My first concern was I wanted to avoid being convicted of a felony. I also did not want to go to jail. I was very worried about this and didn’t know how things would turn out. 

Mr. Koukol was able to negotiate my case with the prosecutor and the judge so that I ended up with a misdemeanor and community service. Not only that, he also got the prosecutor to agree to allow me to terminate my informal probation in 18 months and to dismiss my case if I abide by my probation terms. 

What I had hoped for did get accomplished by Mr. Koukol. I would like to recommend him to anyone that needs this kind of help.

I had never been charged with a crime before and my family and I wanted to try to get the case settled very quickly and in a way so that I could go into the military. 

Mr. Koukol was able to convince the prosecutor to allow me to go to a counseling class and then have my case dismissed. He also got the prosecutor and the court to do this very quickly.
