our lives turned upside down

It’s amazing how much we take for granted everyday, not knowing that our lives can be flipped upside down and everything we know or love can be taken from us in what seems like just a moment. I would like to share what happened to my fiancé and how it turned our lives upside down. 

He was arrested in early 2009 for a crime he did not commit. He was taken from his place of employment and booked on five counts of the most horrific charges anyone would ever want to face in our justice system. Now he would wake up everyday in a 4×6 cell, not knowing the fate of his future, and facing a possible life sentence for the false allegations made against him. He spent his whole life working hard and just trying to be a good dad and family man and suddenly everything would change, possibly for the rest of his life.

Both my fiancé and I had spoke briefly to Dan Koukol when we first heard of the allegations against him. Dan met with us and explained the process in detail and what he might be facing. After my fiancé was arrested I called Dan immediately. Dan appeared at the hearing not even knowing if we would be able to hire him. He received a copy of the report and knew my fiancé was in a really bad situation and that things were not going to be easy. The whole family was devastated, but our belief in his innocence and the incredible support we got from Dan started us down the path to what would become a MIRACLE in our eyes.

Dan took the case and went to work on it immediately. He never missed a beat to keep my fiancé and I informed of everything that was happening and where we stood as far as the legal system. Dan was not only there for us legally, but emotionally too! He always reassured me that I could call anytime, even if I was just having a meltdown.

Dan convinced the prosecutor that further investigation was necessary prior to moving forward and the prosecutor agreed. Court date after court date went by and every new piece of material handed over to Dan became a GOLD MINE to the defense. Dan and his investigator, (who is his father), dug into the case and things started to fall into place. Dan also brought in another investigator who turned out to be a jewel of a gold mine herself. Between the three of them and all of Dan’s years of experience and knowledge of the justice system the truth began to surface. 

Every 2-3 week period between court dates became what seemed like an eternity, but Dan was always there for us with some glimmer of hope and to remind us to stay strong through what would be the hardest thing we would probably go through in our lives.

Dan and his team were able to expose the truth and present it to the prosecutor. The results were AMAZING!

After five months of my fiancé enduring this horrible nightmare, Dan received a call from the District Attorney to let him know that he was dismissing the charges. A dismissal that turned out to be the only dismissal in the carreer of this D.A. The emotions were overwhelming for all of us including Dan and his team. Dan remained in touch with me right up to the very end that night making sure that my fiancé was released and coming home.

Dan and his team are truly heroes to us. There aren’t any words that can express our thanks and gratitude for all that he did concerning this matter.

I am certain that you would not be reading this unless you or a loved one has found themselves in a bad situation and are looking for a good attorney. We as human beings wouldn’t think twice about paying the best physician to save the life of someone we love, so why would we hesitate to pay, in order to have the best attorney on our side.
